LAYLINES - From the inside out
What a learning experience: frustrating, frightening, nerve-wracking to both of us for totally different reasons, but wow, how rewarding. And, imagine it, all this without either of us murdering the other- amazing!!
Both Craig and I went into this as total innocents, without a clue or an idea. We learned fast, though- we had to. And the result? Well, you judge for yourselves!
OK, it's a demo. And we have a lot to put right when we do the next one. The mix isn't perfect, and my timing leaves .a lot to be desired, (and that's no lie). But, what a weird feeling seeing a part of myself encapsulated on CD . Hmm...!
For those who are interested, here is a little about the songs on Lay Lines. All the songs were written within about 2 or 3 months of one another, circa November 1997. Strangely, the last written is the first on the disk. Misconception, probably more often known as Carli, (even to us), was written one evening, when Craig thought I was just messing around on the guitar. The first verse kind of fell into place then, and the rest and the chorus was written while I was standing waiting for the train the next morning.
Don't ask me about Cassandra. I haven't a clue. If any of you do, please drop us a line. I'd love to find out about it, myself!
Summer gone is more of a love song than it at first appears. Just as summer goes, and is replaced by winter, so winter, in turn, is supplanted by summer. it's a cycle of life, in full, magnificent colour. But, to put all of that into one song would have made it a monster-length epic... and I'd be the one having to sing it up on stage, (heaven forbid!). The mix on this one went a bit skew, but we've learned from that. Now...
Cabin fever is about more or less what it says it is about. The feeling of frustration from being stuck in somewhere physically, or, on a more figurative sense, getting caught up in one's own mind... know that feeling?!
The last 2 are my 2 weird tuning songs. I returned my guitar one day and found something that I kind of liked. It stuck around long enough for me to write Summer gone and Cabin fever. Whether we'll do more in this tuning only time will tell.
So, that's the brief history of Laylines, from our side. But, -AND THIS IS IMPORTANT- that is just how we see the songs. We don't have the right to say how you should interpret them, that is entirely up to you, so go wild... Please drop us a line with comments and suggestions. We will, at the very least, read them...

Well, what can I say? This is the first time I have really tried to put my audio system and skills (or lack thereof) to the test. Its amazing how much I've learned from putting this together. Looking back, I see things that could have been improved, but also a lot that I am happy with. I believe that if we did this project again, the end result would be very different, but hell, I'm still proud of it.
